Wow, Today I'm Just Full Of Suprises Eh?

So, usually I only write one post a day, cause then I'm more likely to get a comment on each post. But no, this is so spontaneous, I guess it can be out of the bunch of daily routines [you gotta hop out of those sometimes].

Topic! : Those ads on the sides of websites and blogs and underwear [okay, maybe not underwear, but I wanted to add a third thing, and that's what's there].

What do you think of those ads?
Do they make you want to buy them?
Are they interesting most of the time?
Do you even look at them?
Do you hate them [like I do]?

[I think I should eventually do a massive post where I reply to all my own posts so you can see what my opinions are, even though this blog is not necessarily about my opinions, I'm just trying to prod at a few minds out there. Not sure if you guys like that, but you keep coming back, so hey.]

Indeed. Quite full of surprises!

Those ads...Alright, here's the skinny on them.

Each time those ads are loaded to a webpage, the person that put them there makes a fraction of a cent, and so too, the people who made the ad in the first place make a fraction of a cent. This is called a page impression. Get hundreds of thousands of people visiting your site and you can make a lot of money. Now. Each time someone clicks one of those ads, the people make even more money, this is called a click impression. So, it is to their benefit to target the kinds of users that go to their site. Say, on a torrent site, there will be ads for video games. On a video game site, there will be ads for DVDs and such.

Anyway, now, onto your questions. I think that text ads (like google/yahoo! ads) are just fine and dandy, because they actually search the page for content related thins and most of the time, what they link to is actually useful. Now, the "intimate dating" or "lingerie" ads? Those are pretty much just a waste of bandwidth and are annoying. Especially if they randomly pop up and your mother goes "OMG WHAT IS THAT?!?!" Its really quite embarrassing. No, they dont make me want to even affiliate with that page anymore, let alone buy their product! When the page loads, and youre looking at the page, do you not do a quick once-over of the entire page? That constitutes looking at them, right? Well anyway. Yes. I hate them, much like you.

Just like I like to judge people, I also like to judge ads. Well, maybe not as much as I like to judge people, but yes, I do look at them. Since I'm just such a nice, calm person, the thought of hate or annoyance NEVER occurs to me... right, so I think those ads are just there and i let it be because it's not really hurting anyone, if not benefiting someone. And because I can't do anything about it anyway. I do sometimes want to buy things advertized on the side of a webpage. I have to admit that I have clicked on the victoria secret ad because they said the bras were on sale and I need a bra!!! So yea, I look at them, I don't hate them, but I guess they're not super interesting, most of the time. -yo sista :)
